Yes I think I need to go down one hook size...hoping the next one comes out tighter. What do you all think?

Thanks a lot!  Post time 2013-11-7 03:59
Really sweet  Post time 2013-11-7 03:10
Very true...I'm also looking to bring down the size a bit too. Here's to hoping! I can't afford to buy any new yarn right now so I'm stuck with what I've got P  Post time 2013-11-7 01:14
I like the colours. I´m not sure whether going down another hook size would help a lot, 7 double crochets just need their space^^ you can see those holes in the original hippo too  Post time 2013-11-7 01:05

In case any of you may have missed this great tip...and I know this is a little soon but I want you all to be comfortable with whatever colors you choose to work with, I know colored stuffing can be difficult to find and expensive. @mustaangel had a great suggestion - if you are using black or dark yarns for your project; stuff black or dark colored pantyhose with the stuffing first and THEN stuff your happypotamus! A fantastic idea! Thank you so much again for sharing! :loveliness:

Yup same here....I have a soon to be 7 year old and very distinctive little boy who just loves pulling out mommy's stitches and stuffing. We love them but come on!!! LOL  Post time 2013-11-9 12:35
no worries.. i have a little one who will pull my stuffing out of the hippo once its done lol.. little fingers love to pull stuff :D hehehe that's y i need pantyhose or a casing for the inside :)  Post time 2013-11-9 12:04
Me too! Dollar store baby! LOL ;)  Post time 2013-11-7 02:17
That's what my husband said too! Although I don't have any pantyhose, guess I'll have to buy some. :)  Post time 2013-11-7 02:09

Thank you all so much for your help with the stuffing!!

I'm with you! This gray I'm using is pretty dark but then I have the white centers...bc of the holes though I'm considering using white nylons to keep the stuffing from peeking out. Great idea!  Post time 2013-11-7 06:38

Hello and welcome to the CA! It´s absoultely no problem that you just joined now because you haven´t missed much. If you know which colours you want to use and have tried which hooksize you need you are abaut as far as we are.... because if you got started it´s quite hard to stop again and in some weeks there is only one motif on the schedule :) I have to stop me or I´ll have it done till next week ;P

Comments

No worries girl! The schedule is only a guideline anyways! Feel free to stitch away! I'm sure once we all get going we'll be moving it up anyhow. Either way work at your own pace no need to wait :)  Post time 2013-11-8 03:29
I've got some pale sock yarn that will do for joining, I've just got to decide what colours to use for the flowers. I've made African flowers before and they are VERY addictive :0)  Post time 2013-11-8 02:08

It´s really difficult to start this CAL!!:(:o:(
I haven´t decided what colors to use! This weekend, I'll put all the colors I have and see what catches my eye!!!:P;P:loveliness:

all i did for colours is what i had on hand. you have time to figure it all out.. no stressing over it. :) crocheting the Flowers is the easy part :D its a little hard at first but then its a snap.  Post time 2013-11-9 12:08
Yup I'm better saying it then doing it myself LOLOLOL! Shoot I spilled the beans! ((Wink))  Post time 2013-11-8 20:39
're really optimistic! I'm not so perfect!!!  Post time 2013-11-8 18:55
....I'm so excited to see what you come up with! Especially after seeing all these great color combinations already! Stop worrying I know your hippo is going to be wonderful! Take your time girl  Post time 2013-11-8 18:51
I know that's why I went real simple and only choose 3 colors to work with ...I suck at color coordinating though. But you have nothing to worry about your colors are always perfect! I mean that! :)  Post time 2013-11-8 18:49

I've been watching a lot of youtube videos. I learned something new today that has helped me. I found the invisible join technique. It's really helped me to make the joins easier and find the stitches better. It's probably not new to the advanced users. My last trial looks a lot better!

Hi waterlillie, I am interested in the invisible join technique you found. Could you share the link here? You can drop the http and replace the dot (.) by space. This way can bypass the system che  Details Reply Post time 2013-12-29 17:43
well done!! youtube is really the savior! 's was through him that I started to knit and crochet! Kiss  Post time 2013-11-9 17:15
Definitely look it up mustaangel! And I know waterlillie! Everyone shows different ways of doing the same things! Crazy! Hope you girls are having a nice night :)  Post time 2013-11-9 12:37
i have never heard of the invisible join technique i will have to Google it :) thank you for sharing :D  Post time 2013-11-9 12:10
Of course, one thing I learned is there is no right way, every video shows a different way of doing things. I've seen at least 4 different ways to do the join as you go.  Post time 2013-11-9 12:06
Yay I'm so happy for you! YouTube has been a huge blessing for me! I've basically learned everything I know from the wonderful people who share those great techniques! So happy for you! :)  Post time 2013-11-9 10:15
