Im working on a pattern that is stitched on an afghan material..Im having a problem with the stitching collapsing in the material (pulling through to the next stitch). Any ideas of how to prevent this?

It sounds like your tension may be too tight.  Have you tried using a hoop?

Dont use the "sewing" method, instead push the needle down, pull the thread all the way through, then come up from the back separately. I usually try to stitch over 2 threads to avoid the problem. If stitching over 2 threads, when you start, make sure you start "over the post", theres a thread on here somewhere with diagrams, when you pull the thread up in the lower left corner you should go over a vertical thread then down in the upper right.

Another tip is not to tighten your thread when stitching. Or use 3 threads instead of 2.
