how do you guys deal with hand/finger cramps? should i try some longer needles? i can't seem to find any needles that are longer but not too fat. what are your favorite needles to use?

Take frequent breaks, stretch your hands, stretch your whole body, neck especially. Cross stitching is so fun but chronic pain is not.

i use fingerless arthritis gloves they help a little and plenty of mini breaks helps both my eyes and hands plus a good excuse for a cup of coffee/tea.I still suffer with cramps but they seem to be less frequent with the gloves. and just ordinary cross stitch needles never seen any specialist needles but with the amount of needles i loose would cost me a bomb to replace if they were special (i'm that bad i bulk buy my needles in packs of 25 ;P)

My hands don't cramp from the needles, they cramp up when I hold my hoop or frame so I bought a floor stand.    There are long needles with the eye in the middle made by John James, I have two, but I found using them they would split my floss as I couldn't see what the needle was doing while stitching two handed.  I hate flipping my frame over so now I just use the really petite size 28's.   I do take breaks though too throughout my stitching sessions...... a leg stretch, bathroom break or a tea break and go back to it.  I don't do long sessions anymore.

I got a lap stand, I couldn't hold the hoop anymore. Now I can stitch with 2 hands, I can go a little faster. I have had more problems since I started crochet, it seems to help to wear one of the gloves that supports the thumb.

also I have a problem with tired hands. So in the end I have to decide on the expense and buy a lap stand. I hope that this will speed up my work :)

I make sure I take frequent breaks and stretch my hands and fingers for a minute every 15 or so minutes of stitching. That seems to help me from my fiingers starting to cramp up from stitching. Also.. pay attention to how you're holding your needle and hoop.. a lot of people grip their work so tightly as if it is trying to run away. Just hold it secure but keep your fingers relaxed.

If your fingers cramp up when you crochet, look for those squishy foam things that people put on pencils to make them more comfortable to hold and put them on your hook. The only way I can crochet is to use those otherwise my hand starts to hurt after just a few minutes.

Frequent breaks work for me too. When you get to the end of a thread - do some finger / hand stretches before starting on the new thread.

My fingers cramp from surfing the net too much (using the mouse).
Stitching is never problem. :)

By the way, I am stitching AND surfing now.
