I am new to cross stitch, I just review one of the charts that my friend gave me. It said "all outlines are in long stitch, not back stitch", what does it mean? I didnt find much on youtube for this....
When someone visits this page from a link you share, you will be rewarded
It means the stitches are longer to stretch across a larger area. If its not to be framed I tack down the longer stitch in the middle to keep it from being snagged, just dont pull the holding stitch too tight as it will make a jog in the long stitch.
A long stitch is used when the stitch doesnt follow the corner to corner of the cross stitches. In other words, the stitch may go one across but two down ..... or two down and three across. I found a couple of pictures but this site wont allow me to post links or URL addresses. One site is the Vermillion Stitchery but I got to it from a Google search of "long stitch directions for cross stitching" and I dont know how to get to it from their home page. Another site was Heritage Crafts (hcrafts.com) and going to the "site map" at bottom of page then Counted Cross Stitch Tutorials in the left column. Long stitch is at the very bottom of that page.
