My family tree is nearly finished! The only real step left is to back stitch all the names into the white boxes, and I wont be posting photos once I do that for privacys sake. This was a fun project for me as it combined two of my interests: stitching and geneaology!
Its a Dimensions Kit if anyone is interested. The kit is customizable so that you write the family names onto graph paper (the white boxes), and then you cut them out and tape over the tree in whatever arrangement you like. The example they provided didnt make any sense whatsoever as an historically accurate famiy tree (it was basically just a bunch of names randomly arranged circually on the branches, it didnt seem to be follow generations or family lines), so I tweaked it in a way that makes more sense to me as a family tree, with paternal line going down one side and maternal down the other.
I also changed colours on a bunch of the French knots to suit my taste, and Im considering leaving out some laisy daisy stitches that I think look ugly. I know how to do the stitch (although havent done it in ages), but the pattern wants it done in this dark green colour on top of some of the flowers, and it basically hides/covers the nice blended stitches underneath and just looks weird. Thoughts? Its the orange/yellow/green flowers (one is next to the blue bird), the lazy daisy stitches are supposed to come out from the pink centre.
Overall, Im pretty pleased with how its turned out, and since its sort of a more special project for me I may get it framed professionally as Im not that perfect at framing myself. Time to move onto some Christmas stitching soon though!
