I have a problem in attaching hair to amigurumis.  Seems that when I added a stitch,  the head seems so squished on the area where I sew on because Im trying to make a ponytail.  It seems so hard to everything into 1 hole to make the ponytail look. Im getting discourage with my work.  Any advice?

I simply use a slightly larger hook and make a copy of the first part of the head up to where the ears would go approx. then fit it on the doll like a hat and stitch it all around the edge so it fits like a natural hairline.  Then I hook the hair through the cap stitches, rather than directly onto the head stitches.

When attaching hair to amigurumis by stitching, start by choosing yarn or fibers that match the style and texture you want. Cut strands to the desired length, and work in small sections to keep it neat. Use a yarn needle to securely stitch each bundle of hair onto the head, inserting the needle through the stitches of the amigurumi and looping the hair strands through to anchor them firmly. Make sure to space the bundles evenly and stitch tightly so the hair doesn’t come loose with play or washing. After attaching, you can trim and style the hair to give your amigurumi a polished, finished look. Taking your time with this process will make the hair look natural and durable.

I make a hair cap.  Crochet the same pattern as for the head until it´s the size of a natural hairline in the hair yarn, but use a bigger hook. Sew the cap onto the head and then use the stitches of the the cap, rather than the head for adding the hair.  Hope this makes sense.  I did this for these fairies -

Thanks for advice. Do you stitch the yarn or use the hook? I was doing hatsune miku pattern which sews the yarn directly into the head and I made a awful squished head. Dont know how they do it.  Details Reply Post time 2015-4-21 22:07
