I told you in my tutorial on garter stitch tabs that i would try to find some information on the other way of starting a triangler shawl from the top dow. This was not a easy task. I did find one through Jo-Ann's

well here goes. i Hope i have made this clear enough for you to understand.

In the cast on of this type of garment. From the top down. Youneed to remember that this is where all the weight of your garment will hangfrom. So a cable cast on or a knitted cast is best. You can use the long tailcast on if you choose.
Now some patterns have you cast on one stitch others 3stitches.
Now remember each pattern starts differently. Some have youdo
Knit front and back for your first stitch, then knit one andthen knit front and back again or yarn over as many times as the patterns says.
Some have you mark the center in the first row.
This is what I have learned. Make these stitches as tight asyou can. Otherwise it will be too loose and not look very nice. I would suggesttry using a smaller needle than the pattern calls for these first couple ofrows where you are doing the most increasing per row.
Now your first row is normally your right side row. This isnot always true. After an increase row the next row is knitting without addingany more stitches.
Most of these patterns the first couple of rows are garterstitch. Which means you are knitting on both the right side and the wrong sideof you fabric.
Now following your pattern after all of the increase to getyou to the starting point of your main pattern they have you yarn over afterthe first stitch and before your last stitch.
Some shawl patterns have you place more than one markerbecause there are more than 2 sections to the shawl.
This is the rule of thumb from what I have discovered sofar. There is a center stitch between each increase. So you would yarn overplace a marker then knit a stitch [this is your center stitch for this panel.] Thenyarn over again. Knit your pattern until your next marker. And continue in thisway.
Now I would check these increase section on aregular basis. Why you might ask. If you make a mistake at these points it willstick out like a sore thrum. And you will have a lot of ripping to do. Also alife line would be helpful.

well i hope this helped and you found it helpfull
