I definitely do the two handed stitching. That is heaps faster. And gridding! And coloring in what Ive stitched so I dont waste time looking for my spot.
Also, when I park, I make a note on my pattern so I know a parked thread is there. That helps with any confusion, in case I mis-park a thread.
I use the loop method for a quick start, needle minders (I used to be constantly looking for where I stuck my needle). Ive just started highlighting what I have stitched and that seems to help a lot as well.
I thread a lot of needles of the same color if I know there are a lot of that color stitches in the area I am working on.
I color in my work as I go on my chart.
I use a floor stand.
I just recently started using a laying tool to have my stitches lay side by side. It is faster than the railroading or untwisting my thread.
I also enlarge my pattern and I have lots of pairs of reading glasses around. I cant stitch w/out them.
I hope this helps.
stupid question from a beginner (im thinking about starting.. not sure)
what is gridding?
and two-hand stitching, you mean, you use your left hand AND right hand to stitch?? wow.
Gudrunhart, thanks a lot!.. i imagined you like geniuses doing 2 "x" at the same time with each hand! lol... looks like a have a lot to learn before starting.. i only know how to do the "x" and nothing else ... i will take my time i think.
Im the same I am more process oriented than aiming for the product, that is why I sometimes do one picture for a year.

I stitch with 2 hands when its convenient, I dont change needles (each color has its own needle), I have a copy of my design and mark off everything that I already stitched.
Thats all, I think. But, generally, I dont try to stitch faster, because I do enjoy the process ))))
