Who cares about file size these days?  I dont see the point of converting a scan to repaint.

Repaints are great if you want to make changes to the pattern design, colors or combine sections from different patterns into one.  Post time 2021-4-10 05:03

Hi,

If you have One Note, it comes with Microsoft Word, its easy to copy a pattern into it.  You ...

You can make a scan bigger in just about any program.  Paint for instance.

So I have a pat file but dont have windows, and really struggling to convert the file into anything useable.  Please could someone help?

PatternMaker patterns use the XSD for the file extension.  Post time 2022-3-30 00:56
Pat file most likely opens with the program that made it, PCStitch. There is a version of it in Cross Stitch Software section; www.pindiy.com/forum-CrossStitchSoftware-1.html  Post time 2022-3-30 00:56
Otherwise, a .pat file can be a PC stitch file. In which case, there is a PCstitch Viewer program also available for free.  Post time 2022-3-26 11:28
A .pat file is usually Pattern Maker. You can use the Pattern Maker Viewer (Its free software) to view it and print as PDF Just google "Pattern Maker Viewer (version 4.04)" and its first result   Post time 2022-3-26 11:23

You use a program like WinStitch, Pattern Maker, etc, to recreate the pattern in the programs format. EG, Pattern Maker is XSD (Most common on this forum it seems)
To do this, you need to manually redraw every square, every bit of backstitch, french knot, etc with the mouse on your computer.

It can be very tedious and time consuming.

I mean sure, you dont go in a cross shape with the mouse for every stitch, you click the box and occasionally click n drag. But that just makes it sound complicated  Post time 2022-3-27 08:55
Is it not using the mouse to "draw" the pattern again, from scratch, on the computer? How is that incorrect? This is how I do it on the computer. I mean sure, you dont go in a cross shape with the m   Post time 2022-3-27 08:54

This isnt quite correct. You arent "redrawing" every square. You are filling in the squares with colors. Its very similar to what lots of stitchers do with a paper pattern and colored pencils.   Post time 2022-3-27 06:26
