I am getting quite a collection of cross stitch patterns, and I need to start sorting them somehow.

I was just wondering how you sort yours?

Any help/advise is always welcome :-)

thats your decision,
you can sort them by alphabet or by country or by style or language,
just what you prefer to have.

I sort mine by manufacturer or designer, magazines get sorted as to craft in their own folder.  Magazine World of Cross stitch, then within I try and list them by name then number all the same so they sort by the issue number, then year follows the issue.  Miscellaneous files with no designer listed get filed in one miscellaneous folder.
Loose knitting gets sorted by type whether its accessories, broken down to hats, mitts and gloves, shawls, or by sweater type, men, children or women, etc.
I have folders within folders, like dimensions, they have plastic canvas, scenes, whimzies, wind chimes, animals, sayings etc., and they are listed within my Dimensions folder.

So, if Im looking for DMC, a kit or chart, its all within the DMC folder, now DMC has many types of files for instance AOY, or Somebunny, Sara Kay, or Country Companions, each has their folder within DMC, makes looking for something easier.

I sort mine by theme and designer. I have various themes (e.g. cats, Christmas, teddy bears) but I also have a couple of designers I prefer to keep separate.

Sort mine by theme. Almost the same themes as my collections, but not quite as I was restricted at first by only being able to make a limited amount of collections at first. I find it easier if Im looking to make a pattern of a certain size, on f.ex. florals, to search through what I have that fit the criteria. Especially if I even want to be more specific and look for only daisies or poppies.
The designer doesnt matter so much in the first instance, but would be something Id consider when evaluating which of my various choices I would prefer to do depending on my experience.

I sort mine by name (for magazine), and by year I obtain them for other patterns. But with this method I still find it difficult to find particular patterns. so, still confuse too!
