The original name of this doll is “Большеголовый Пупсик Йо-йо”, sometimes also called “Кукла Йо-йо”, “Кукольки Йо-йо” or “Большеголовый малыш йо-йо”. (Babydoll Yo-yo, Doll Yo-yo, Yo-yo dollies or “Big headed baby Yo-yo”). A doll of this type was in the past (but is no longer) taught in Russian schools in shop class with instructions provided orally by the teacher and pattern instructions never written down. The designer of the pattern that was the basis for the youtube video (video by Ирина Загородняя = Irina Zagorodnyaya) is Анастасия Макеева (Языкова) = Anastasia Makeeva (Yazykova). Anastasia first published her pattern in March 2015 in her closed group on VK (vkontakte), a Russian social media site similar to classmates.com. However, another designer, Marina Zakharova, published a detailed, but different, CAL pattern earlier than Anastasia Makeeva. Marina’s pattern, according to Marina, produces a better-looking doll and is different in small details. Anastasia wrote her own pattern, imitating the features of Marina’s doll by looking at photos of finished dolls, but not using Marina’s instructions. This pattern has been translated and rewritten by Jenn Dysart for clarity.
