There is continued progress in raising the percentages of success rates, but additional work is needed to further improve the statistics. The faculty will explore other means of recruitment, i.e., faculty performances on campus and in the community at large, attending music festivals and community outreach, to attract more majors, especially those in the piano and instrumental areas which currently lag behind the vocal area. It is believed that more exposure of the talents of individual and/or collective faculty will induce more students to choose JSU Music Department in order to further and hone their abilities as musicians. The department could also offer a JSU MUSIC Day, inviting all high school seniors to visit the campus, observe the different ensembles, and speak with faculty and students. In conclusion, the main focus of the department will be to improve methods of recruitment in order to attract students who wish to major in music, especially in the piano and instrumental fields.
