Fleece Artist Suri Blue, a somewhat heavy lace 2-ply wool/alpaca, 600 m(656 yards)/100g skein. The shawl as shown uses one entire skein down to the last few yards. Buy 2 skeins to be entirely sure you have enough. You also need two skeins if you want to knit the shawl with nupps instead of beads.
Needles used: US 4 – 3.5 mm.
Gauge is not important. Always use a needle size that gives you a fabric you like. Every knitter’s tension is unique.
Shawl measures: 165 x 75 cm (65 inches by 29.5 inches) relaxed after blocking when knit in Fleece Artist Suri Blue.
Berkanan is a triangular shawl, showing off birch leaves on a background of lace mesh. It is knit from the top down, meaning that you begin with a few stitches in the middle of the longest side (the neck), and end with the picot edge.
