The shawl is worked from the center out using four simple lace patterns to achieve a dramatic and gorgeous affect. It is a ‘true pi shawl’ with distinct points of increasing. I’ve sampled stitches inspired by those that appeared in an 1863 issue of Godey’s Lady’s Book. Each section is a different lace pattern with stitch counts given, for you to reuse in the sampler or to work a sampler scarf, if desired. Lace patterns are simple enough that charts are not needed and rest rows are provided after each lace row…so none of that crazy double sided lace people talk about. It can be worked in any weight yarn just purchase a sufficient amount to make the size desired. Choose a needle size 1-2 sizes larger than that recommended on the ball band. Also included is an article on Godey’s Lady’s Book and the incredibly interesting view Godey had on the Civil War, which included ignoring its existence. The PDF is 12 pages long, includes high quality photos of each stitch and the shawl as a whole. Also included is a Bibliography for further reading. |
