The yarn weight is as stated directly from the pattern. I would be guided by the hook size and the notes below which are also from the pattern:
Crochet hooks:
European metric 3,5 mm and 4 mm (E/4-G/6)
For size S: 3 mm and 3.5 mm (D/3- F/5).
Buttons: 3 pcs. Yarn Needle
Gauge for the instruction dress size M:
Yoke: Hook 3.5 mm; 20 dcs x 12 Rows = 4 inch square.
Skirt: Hook 4 mm; 18 dcs 9 Rows = 4 inch square.
Swatch with any hook size to obtain gauge.
NOTES:
I have oversized the hooks a little bit for this dress, to obtain
a soft and airy fabric. And fast worked!
1. You can use any yarn suitable, closest possible to weight/
length in Material list above to obtain the gauge.
2. The dress is worked from top down.
3. The yoke is worked forth and back in rows from neck to
underarm.
4. The sleeves are worked forth and back till correct chest
width, and yoke are folded to shape armholes and skirt,
which is worked in rounds with larger hook-size.
5. Replace first dc at beg of every row/round with 3 ch, finish
the row with 1 dc in 3’rd ch at beg of prev row.
