The Valkyries are the women, who bring the noble slain to the afterlife in Valhalla, the seat of Odin. They are the amazons of the Nordic mythology. They are both hard and gentle, women and warriors, harbingers of death and bringers of afterlife.
One of the symbols of the Valkyries is the swan, and thus the sock features a swan motif on the front. The Nordic element is underscored by the braids running down the back and on the top of the foot of the sock. The stars of the afterlife is symbolised in the slip-stitch ribbing on the cuff.

The pattern is written for top-down knitting and is fully charted for both sizes of the socks.
