The cowl has a lacy picot edge, and comprises two different stitch patterns: Cable and a Fern Lace in a repeat of six. It is knit in the round, but you can knit it flat and join up the seams, or add a vertical button border (see adaptation notes at the end of the pattern). I have used 4ply/fingering on 4mm needles to keep it dainty and add more looseness. It can be made in DK/8ply, but will, obviously, be slightly larger in size and thicker.
The alternating columns of cable and fern lace were the inspiration, which, I think, creates a light and lacy feel, and is reminiscent of natural forms, alongside cables and ropes!
