How to make a C2C smaller

Ive been working on a C2C for 3 or 4 months now, I love it but its huge & ridiculously heavy.  I always see people talking about how they made their C2C or graphgan mini.. How?  Is it just smaller hook or thinner wool?  Or can I make my blocks smaller, instead of 3 stitches do 2?

I used smaller hook and thinner yarn. I made a baby blanket in sport weight, and it was alright, not too heavy

A smaller hook and thinner yarn can help, mandalas are weight 3 if you can find those.  Also, if it is too heavy I like to crochet them on a bed, its easier to turn them around and you dont have to hold all the weight of the blanket.

MINI C2C PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS
GAUGE=1/2 INCH PER BLOCK
Crochet Hook - H
This can vary according to the individual’s tension.
SL ST-slip stitch
CH-chain
HDC-half double crochet
CH4
Row 1- HDC in 3rd and 4th CH from the hook. (1 block=row 1)
Row 2- CH 4, HDC in the 3rd and 4th CH from the hook. (1st block of the 2nd row)
Twist the 2 blocks, join to the first block by SL ST into the CH2 space.
Ch2, 2HDC in the same CH2 space. (2 blocks=row 2)
TURN
Row 3- CH4, HDC in the 3rd and 4th CH from hook. SL ST in the next CH2, CH2,
2HDC in the same CH2 space. SL ST into the next CH2 of the next block.
CH2, 2HDC in CH2 space. (3 blocks=row 3)
TURN .....and so on
