Charging coins and read permissions for a free pattern with code with time limit?

I dont know if anyone else noticed this. There are several patterns that are posted free on another site. They are available with a code for a limited time. Shouldnt they at least be treated as free? As long as they are available with a coupon code? Just wondering.
It seems really greedy to ask not only for coins but for read permissions as well.

On this site, when we include the word FREE on the title of knitting and crochet patterns, it means that the pattern is free (and will always be free) elsewhere.  As I mentioned before, free patterns from somewhere else can be charged up to 10 extra coins by the uploader here, always.

The choice is really up to the members who choose to download here, without searching for the pattern somewhere else.

Thats why it says "FREE" in the subject line - to let you know if you google for them you can get them free or buy here.

I agree. I have reported some of these patterns as being free for a short while even though nothing is mentioned on the post title. There are greedy individuals that not only charges obscene amounts for patterns but also take advantage by charging for free patterns - some people dont get the concept of sharing! Also, it would be nice if members posted patterns instead of trying to earn coins by posting thank yous in posts and not downloading the pattern, including bounty requests. If you want to get coins, post patterns and not just free ones!

I think I know the site you are referring to. Once the pattern is no longer "free" on the other site, it is a paid pattern so if you post it while it is "free" you must include "free". If the offer  Details Reply Post time 2017-10-25 00:02
As mentioned below I posted a new magazine once before they did. Got it from a free website. Same quality as posted on here. They deleted mine & then posted an identical copy so they got GCs not me.   Post time 2017-10-24 04:52
I wish we could repost these patterns as Free. I would share them for free but someone has already beaten me to it. The straw that broke my camels back is the read permission on some of these! Like  Details Reply Post time 2017-10-24 01:36

Because the patterns are a short while for free, they are allowed to ask coins. That pattern will be a buy pattern, so not for free anymore.

I reported a while ago a pattern on this site, you could download for free on Facebook, when you are a member of this FB group. To become a member is easy, but the moderator told me that thats the reason its not for free and they could ask coins for the pattern.

Permanently "Free" patterns found elsewhere can be charged up to 10 coins on this site.

Not all posts of "freebies" are declared as free.  Post time 2017-10-29 19:51
Ive reported "free" patterns that charge 100 coins to no avail. "Permanently free" needs to be defined, items on the internet are rarely permanent. Items do disappear and web sites close down.   Post time 2017-10-29 19:50
If they are still "free" on the other site when posted here they should be posted as "free" here also. It is against policy to charge more than 10 GC for "free" items. You could report it to the mods   Post time 2017-10-25 00:03

I think I know the site you are referring to.  Once the pattern is no longer "free" on the other site, it is a paid pattern so if you post it while it is "free" you must include "free".  If the offer has ended and their is a price you can post it and request more than 10 GC for it.  The maximum for a free pattern is 10GC.  I understand sharing but folks should also remember the people posting have taken the time to download from somewhere else or scan the item themselves, locate pictures to post, and take the time to upload it here.  My personal opinion is they should be entitled to a small compensation for their time and effort.  Yes, people charge HUGE amounts of GC sometimes and its getting higher daily.  I just dont "buy" them.  My philosophy is quantity over GC costs.  You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.  Youll have more people download with a lower cost IMHO.  The highest I charged 75 GC for ONE pattern (there were three in the same vein from and the other two were already posted here for 100 GC).  I usually keep it at/under 50 GC which I think is fair given they charge 30 GC just to download (even if the pattern is TOTALLY free and the poster doesnt request ANY GC).  I dont understand the high cost just to download but Im sure they have their reasons.

One way to thank the members who post patterns and dont charge or charge very little is to give them GC through the rate option. Thats what I have recently been doing.
I agree that once the free offer than a charge is legit for the pattern, but during the time the pattern is free, it should also be free on this forum.
I also am not a fan of multiple downloads for a large file - at 30 GC for each download, Ouch!
