Sizes: Womens Small (Medium, Large), or 7(8, 9) inches [17.75 (20, 22.75)cm] in circumference. Stranded colorwork has little or no give; if in doubt, knit the next size up.
Needles: Set of four or five US #2 (2.75mm) double-pointed needles or size needed to obtain gauge.
Gauge: 8 sts/inch (2.5cm) on US #2 (2.75mm) needles over stranded knitting.
Yarn: Assorted fingering-weight sock yarns at approximately 460 yards (425m) to 3.5 oz (100g). Main color: one skein dark green. Contrast colors: Twelve leftover bits of yarn in six light and six darker colors, less than ½ oz (10g) of each.
Sample sock used two shades of dark purple, one medium purple, light grey, light blue, two medium blues, light pink, dark pink, light-medium green, yellow, and white. Note: These socks could also be knit in only two (or three) contrasting colors. For a two-color sock, pick one color to use for the chart background color and one to use for both the chart motifs and the cuffs, heels, and toes. You will probably need 100 gms of the motif, cuff, heel, and toe color and 50 gms of the chart background color. For three colors, use a dark color and a light color for the color work charts, with a third color for the cuffs, heels, and toes. You will probably need 1.75-3.5 oz (50-100g) of the cuff, heel, and toe color and 1.75 oz (50g) each for the chart colors.
Notions: Stitch markers; scissors; tapestry needle for darning in ends.
