Hello!
What technique(s) do you plan to learn in 2018?  One of the things I love about knitting is that I can choose projects that I can learn new techniques from.  One of the techniques Im going to learn in 2018 is how to do short rows and how to use them to make garments fit better.  I also plan to learn the Magic Loop technique because Im going to knit some socks this year.  I can learn both techniques working on socks!
What about you? :)

Tatting lace?  with the shuttle?  That is so awesome!  This is the first Ive heard of tatting in 5-6 years.  I used to knit at my LYS with a group of ladies that had wonderfully diverse skills and interests.  I havent heard anyone mention it, or seen anyone doing it, since I moved into a different time zone.

Have you tried it, yourself Loveinspanish? I am trying both shuttle tatting and needle tatting techniques & they are both fun, but I honestly cant see what difference there are between the two. I do enjoy knitting and crochet, too, so I am really looking forward to seeing your sock progress photos (please post some :loveliness:).
Welcome to the forum, hope you have lots of fun!

Nope, I havent tried tatting...yet.  But I was planning to learn.  I just never got around to it.  Its so delicate and beautiful!  I still want to learn.
Ive knit 5 pairs of socks in my life, and 3 1/2 of them have been from the same pattern, and all have used the same technique:  toe up, two at a time, on two circular needles.  So, Im looking forward to really getting short rows down pat and learning how to knit them on one REALLY long needle.  Next purchase:  a super long US #1 circular.
Thank you for the Welcome.  Happy New Year!

As a beginner, I find needle tatting is a little easier to maneuver (because there is a great deal of unpicking involved :lol ). Still, its heaps of fun and I really like the lace look! Im trying to make a bonnet for a doll I am dressing for a friend. Ive added a picture of a bonnet that I am using as inspiration for the project, but Im making up the pattern as I go because the doll is quite old and has unusual proportions.

Great idea to knit both socks at the same time (I do that with sleeves too) and I am a HUGE fan of circular needles...they make knitting so enjoyable!  I do hope you will post pics of your progress, Id love to see them grow!

Bonnet is beautiful, love the lace look. Post some pictures of yours when it is done. I am looking forward to teach myself tatting. I cross stitch, do you recommend needle or shuttle?  Post time 2018-1-6 05:16

Yes!  Circs are my favorite and my go to.  I want knit a pair of colorwork worsted weight socks; theyll go fast!  :D  Theyll be great practice socks, too.  AND I wont need to buy a super long US1; I can use what I already have and put that money in my yarn fund.  Ill post pictures once I get started.  Right now, I binding off a sweater so I can start another one.  Maybe Ill do the socks and the sweater at the same time...
