This just solved a VERY old doubt I had in my life, non forum related, of course!
We had the "Reader ...

The name "Readers Digest" is talking about digesting information through reading. Very different from this site! I think that magazine sort of abridged things to make it easier for readers to understand and absorb the information (or, "digest" it). To digest in reading is sort of like to ponder, and to come to understand through that pondering. :)
