Using Pattern Maker

Could someone who does repaints help me?

I got Pattern Maker 4 from here - and it works great. Almost easier than PC Stitch.
However, for making a repaint, I am having a horrible time getting patterns to line up. Ever.
I even am trying it with a repaint MADE in Pattern Maker. It was shared but the key is *barely* readable - theres no info with it, etc. So I figured, ok, whip up a quick repaint. I can do that in the evenings, and it should work fine. Since its made in Pattern Maker, it should line up pretty easy.

But. . .nope. . .Even though, technically speaking the grid is the same size as the one in the program, the image is not skewed at all - it STILL is out of alignment. It starts off ok in the upper left and steadily gets worse as it moves away. The lower-right corner is impossibly out of alignment with the painting grid. -.-

Frankly, Im baffled. If I run grid alignment, I can SEE it distorting the image - and it still doesnt line up. I did find a tutorial online about it. . .but its in Russian/Polish/something  unintelligble to English speakers and she spends so much time talking, I cant tell what she DOES - much less why she does it.

Is there a trick to this? Ive been able to repaint small patterns - but it seems any time I try to do a larger one, it warps beyond usability. I get this is a time-consuming process. But itd be nice if it actually worked the way it was supposed to. :P Please help!

Thank you!

Its actually not hard! Ive been using PMP 4 Pro for years now and I have been doing repaintjobs by the dozen. You need to start with a good graphic program. Try installing Infranview = FREE and easy to use. Make sure the image is straight and cut the grid nicely and COUNT the stitch WIDTH. Then copy the image and import as a new pattern using the Clipboard option . You will need to put in the stitch width doing that later on.

Then using the wizard you need to
- tick box use image as underlayment (no conversion to stitches)
- next you can skip the cropping option as you already did that
- in the alignment grid push on the zoom and zoom in closely on your grid .. 10 stitches or les wide and high
- push the 123 button below the zoom option
- now pinpoint your mouse to the grid and make 3 markers: above left, above right and right down -> next
- fill in your stitchcount width (the hight will be done automaticly)
- I always add 2 stitches vertically and horizontally on each side so I can move the underlayment around
- import and close

If your underlayment is not in the correct position use the recktangle tool to select the underlayment. You can push and pull it till it is on the right place.
Then add floss colors etc .. and you can start your repaint

Hope that helps :D
Good luck !

Hi,
Ive had the same issue with large patterns or with poor quality scans being hard to get a clear grid when using pattern maker.  The easiest thing Ive found to do is make several copies of the pattern I want to repaint and then simply crop them into pieces.  Then I just use one section at a time when I put them into the pattern maker program.
