I chose yarn based on single skeins I had around the stash. starting with 3 skeins of a similar tone and then fourth skein in a completely different colour. through out the shawl the yarn is held double, I used a scale to figure out when to change colours, because all my yarn was in 100g put ups, this is how I broke it down so that the sections used similar quantities of yarn:
