You work your hdc into the up/down part of the stitch, rather than the loop that is lying on top. By the sounds of the instructions, you start with 2 hdc around the post at the beginning, then 1 hdc in the following stitches to the row end then another hdc around the post. Without actually seeing the picture Im not sure if this is correct or not. Perhaps you are suppose to do hdc around the post all across. Doing around the
