Why Read Permissions for Downloading?

Just curious, but why do people add read permission to their patterns? There are several I would like to download but they are limited to DIY.2 and higher so I cannot. Why do people do this? It seems like they dont want to share.

Sharing a pattern earns you more points towards leveling up than posting a reply.

One shared pattern earns you 0.26 points, whilst one reply earns you 0.1 points.

And I agree with bs.frog. Setting a read permit should - at least in theory - encourage new members to share patterns to gain higher levels faster.

I agree, I shared patterns also. :)  Post time 2019-1-17 03:28
Ah yes, that makes sense. I have trouble finding patterns in my collection that arent already shared here though! (I do share the ones that are on here and arent too large to upload.)  Details Reply Post time 2019-1-16 12:42

Im new to this community, and I quickly reached DIY 2 just to download a specific pattern. I think that "more advanced" patterns are exclusive to people that spend a lot of time on this site. Time, posting, replying, etc.
So, youll have to reach DIY 2 to enjoy the "rewards". I think its quite fair to leave it this way.

People sometimes put read permissions so that they are sharing with others who they feel, to be of a higher level, have either shared patterns or shared their time becoming part of the site. There have been lots of people who join, never really share anything, do the minimum to earn enough coins to get what they want and leave. By putting a read permission it makes it feel like you are sharing with others who also share not just take. Just my opinion on why. Hopefully they dont ask for more that level 1 or 2. :) Hope what I wrote made sense.

Ive shared a number of patterns but I dont think that increases my level does it? Gold, yes, but not credits to get to the next level.  Details Reply Post time 2019-1-14 12:14
