Interesting; usually when I see it looking different, it is because the work is "inside out" - never heard of your way of stitching but I will try.

I prefer X stitch, or V crochete in the wrong side

i was taught the y but like the x better so much neater and holds up better to little hands playing with them

I didnt try the v one. I dont know whether I can manage to meke it because since 5, Im making the x one by default. Both look beautiful but I prefer the x one.
