Hello everyone,

Im so disheartened... Two years ago, I made a christmas bauble out of wool. I "found" it in a box the other day and it has been eaten in several parts by some kind of bug... I feel like quitting crochet as I dont know how to protect my stash.

Would you have any tips for me?

Thanks a lot !

Everything in the closet that the christmas bauble was stored in should be inspected for evidence of moth damage.  If there is any fabric in the closet it could be contaminated.  You need to wash all fabrics at a minimum according to the washing instructions.  There are several good sites, even wikipedia, on how to get rid of them.  Dont give up on crafting!  You just need to be more aware of bug control.  I get infested bad sometimes because I bring raw fleece into my house for spinning.  If it happens its limited, because the fleeces are stored in huge freezer ziploc bags.  Then I only have a small localized infestations to deal with.  Maybe store your crochet stuff in ziplocs to minimize/compartmentalize future damage. Everyone at some time has to deal with some kind of bugs in the house, be it spider/fruitflies/flies. Its just a matter of managing it.

Yes, keep it clean. Inside a ziplog bag (for the freezer. Also buy anti-moth balls or lavender essential oil (if you dont like pesticides). You put your yarn thing inside the bag, and put some oil in a cotton ball inside with the yarn.

Also look at sistermountain.com/blog/protect-yarn-handknits-moths and knitdarling.com/blog/moth-attack

Please take good care because you already have moths and moth eggs in your house and they are very resistant.
