Hi,
I think we all need to stop being so wasteful! People go to the store and are too lazy to bring a reusable bag so they walk out with everything bagged in plastic. Plastic bags dont go away! They will be here for ever. People who try to convince themselves that they are being environmentally friendly because they reuse their bag or craft it are just fooling themselves. That bag is going to end up in a landfill.
The same goes for that plastic single serve food item too. We need to think about what we are doing. We are creating more garbage all the time. Not only is there no place to put the stuff just think of the natural resources that are being wasted. Do you really need that single serve food item? Do you have to drink water out of a plastic single use bottle? The answer is no!
Also think about your clothes. Textile waste is one of the largest growing garbage problems we have. That cheap $3 t-shirt might look like a great buy. However, when it only lasts a couple of months and it ends up in the trash is it really a good deal?
The other thing we are guilty of these days is electronic waste. The area that I live near is under pressure to allow mining outside of a national wilderness area. The waste from the mining doesnt go away and has the potential to contaminate ground water for a 100 years or more. The reason for the mining? Its stuff that is used in cell phones. So think about that the next time you want that latest version. Is having a fancier screen worth your grandchildren not having clean water? |
