Printing aida on inkjet printer

Hello friends,

I have been working on dyeing fabrics using natural dyes (tea, coffee, onion skins) and more "artificial" (food colorants and crepe paper), I have followed some instructions given here and in some others sites and it has been very fun.

But now I wanted to take another step and try to print aida fabric directly on my printer. I have found some tutorials for printing on fabric for quilting, but I think aida is a little bit more thick and I am very afraid of ruining my printer. I also think that the printer feeder type might be a factor on the results.

So I would like to know if any of you have tried something like this and it would wonderful to show us your results.

I have found ink from ink jet printers is soluble in water.  So I rid myself of my ink jet and bought a colour laser so if I should spill water on my printed charts, the symbols wouldnt run.

Im not sure that any printing on aida through an ink jet would be worth while.   I wonder if you can set the colour with vinegar; I know fabric dye is set with vinegar.

I have used acrylic paint to dye fabric with pretty good results.  I also set the colour with a medium hot iron.  As for the acrylic paint running ........Ive had no issues, but I sure rinsed and rinsed and rinsed to
make sure the excess paint was out of the fabric. I used a heavy evenweave fabric, but it did appear to be stiffer when it was coloured with acrylic paint.

with acrylic paint on fabric i found it works best if you use fabric medium additive to make it stay better, the fabric medium is found where most acrylic paints are in the craft stores traditionally at the bottom or top shelf of the bottle rack
