What fabric is better? Aida or lugana?

I think Aida is easier to stitch on if you are a beginner, because it has precise holes for every square of cross stitch you do. Lugana you have to count threads to stitch over.

Both are evenweave fabrics. Aida is 100% cotton and Lugana is a cotton/rayon blend. Both are available in a variety of colors. If you are new to cross stitch 28-count Lugana working over 2 threads is equivalent to 14-count Aida working over one thread. The finished work ends up being the same dimension. The main reason to use Lugana is for a pattern that has many fractional stitches as it is easier to work these stitches on Lugana versus Aida. Although I have never had a problem doing fractional stitches on Aida. My preference is 16-count or 18-count Aida as I dont want to count over 2 threads in Lugana.
