Materials
• 20m/22yds each of 5 colours (shown here in purple, blue, green, pink, yellow), plus 150m/165yds of background colour (shown here in white)
• This sample was knit JoytotheWoolCo pastel mini-skein set, and some of my white handspun from Canadian Rambouillet wool of comparable weight. The mini-skein set is 20gm/80 metres with a 75% superwash wool/ 25% nylon composition.
• 2.5mm (US 2) needles
• 2.25 mm (US 1) needles
• Stitch markers
• Stitch holder(s) to hold 16 stitches
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors
• Measuring tape
Pattern Notes
The gauntlet begins with a k1p1 ribbing with colourwork, then moves into stockinette stitch with colourwork, and finishes with a k1p1 rib. The gauntlet is worked from the bottom up, and an ambidextrous thumb gusset is seamlessly worked at the same time. These thumb gusset stitches are later picked up to complete the thumb. The thumb is worked in stockinette, and is finished with a k1p1 rib.
Sizing
This pattern is written in one size, measuring 18 cm (7 inches) around at the palm, and 19 cm (7.5 inches) in length.
The sizing can also be adjusted by using a thicker or thinner yarn, or going up or down a needle size to increase or decrease the size.
Tension
Suggested tension is 38 sts = 10cm/4in over stockinette in 2.5mm (US 2) needles. Adapt the combination of tension, needle size, and yarn as needed to suit your context.
Chart
There are two colourwork charts. One chart is for the cuff, and one chart is for hand. Each chart is read from right to left, bottom to top. The charts show a 6 stitch repeat of colourwork, which is repeated to complete the round.
Directions
A cuff is worked in k1p1, with colourwork coming in on Round 3. The hand section begins with a new colour chart, and the thumb gusset is worked simultaneously as the hand section. Once the thumb gusset is complete, the gauntlet top is then worked, followed by the thumb.
