I looked at the 4C site some time ago, and discovered I mostly downloaded patterns from Pindiy since 4C doesnt have the awesome and huge selection that Pindiy has. Here is what I can remember about 4C...
It is a very similar site since it uses the same site design software as here. However, there are some differences in price structures and rules between here and there.
4C caps each pattern thread cost at 40 diamonds (diamonds=gold coins) and the site tax is only 5 diamonds per file, so it is much more affordable and less greedy than PinDiy. Free patterns are capped at 10 or 15 diamonds (I cant remember which). But their site doesnt have the variety of patterns that are on this one since there are WAY FEWER active members posting patterns on 4C.
Requests for patterns in their request area are only kept for 12-18 months before they are removed from the system. Even if no one uploads the requested pattern, the requester will still lose all the reward money to the 4C system.
Also, 4C has "no spamming" rules (which I liked). For example, if you reply to a pattern thread you must download that pattern or it is considered spamming and you can be penalized. This really keeps threads much more streamlined, cleaner and neater.
You earn diamonds and contribution (contribution=credits) for each pattern you upload to 4C, AND earn diamonds and contribution everytime you reply and buy a pattern, AND when you daily login you earn diamonds. However, the contribution required for gaining user group levels is much more spread out than PinDiy. The upper levels on 4C are almost unattainable. I remember that one of their middle user group levels is from 15,000 to 500,000 contribution points! I was so shocked when I first read about that on the 4C site. That is a huge amount= 485,000 of required points to get to the next level, so it probably will never happen to any members besides admin and moderators on 4C.
4C members can only respond/download 15 times an hour and each response must be spaced around 1 minute.
If you pay $9.99 per month you can become a "supporting member" on 4C. This means you can download anything and everything regardless of your level and as a supporting member your downloads wont cost any diamonds.
Basically, 4C requires that any uploaded pattern have: NO QR codes in it, NO external links, NO external watermarks, magazines and books must be complete, all posts and conversations must be in english only, and they do not allow epubs converted to PDFs to be posted. They also do NOT allow free patterns from yarn companies to be posted.
There is a nice category and subcategory system at 4C: Knitting is seperate from Crochet, english patterns are seperate from other languages, and free patterns are seperate from paid patterns, etc.
Hope this can help you understand
