When preparing your fabric for a project, how do you prepare your edges?

I have heard of people serging, taping, gluing, hand basting, and doing nothing.

I prefer serging, but I no longer have access to a serger. :(

What do you do?  So, WHY do you do what you do?

Thanks in advance...     :)

I zigzag the edges and straight sew over the zigzag

recently started serging my edges.
used to use painters/masking tape.  Also tried fray-stop, glue, and a few other ways, none of which ever worked.  Serging really is the best technique IMO

I tape, it was how I was taught.  However,  a blanket stitch around the edges would probably work as well, or zigzag on a standard sewing machine.

I use pinking shears/zigzag scissors on small projects, masking tape on larger ones, 1 because I'm lazy and 2 masking tape isn't quite as sticky as other tape and comes off easily at the end :)

I get most of my fabric through monthly autos so the edges are serged when it arrives.  For the rest, I use Fray Check since I don't sew or have a serger myself,

When I am doing a large project, I tape my edges.  Most of what I work on is smaller though so I don't do anything to the edges!

Nothing at all :-( But I see I need to do something like serging... No tape cause I stitch *in hand* and it is too hard, expecially for little projects...

Nothing for small ones and blanket stitch or tapes for bigger ones - it takes a bit long to stitch all around the fabric but I think it is worth

I use tape or hem normally, but I just bought some fraycheck so maybe time for a change.
