Why some crochetknit designers refuse to answer a question?

Yes I know this is a weird subject, but have you ever asked a designer the following and they just ignore it: (ofc they dont have to answer everyone)

• what brand of yarn are you using?
• what stitch is that?
• how many skeins of yarn did you use?
• what hook\needle did you use?
• May I know the sizes in details?
  

There are many questions but the most common question they ultimately refuse to answer is "what brand of yarn are you using?"
also "May I know the sizes in details?" But i guess just giving the height and width is enough even tho sometimes its not.

like anyone wondered WHY they refuse to answer that? how is that gonna affect their work?
I know some designers who recommended yarn brands and etc but most of the times those sell patterns, im talking about those who only sells finish products .

On my early days of learning how to knit and crochet I used to ask them but almost never get a response, while there are many sweet designers who answered me.

And the following happend for me TWICE, I answered one of the commenters on Insta and I told them the brand that the designer is using to make the crochet\knit project, and the next day my comment was deleted, and I went on and answered again and then it got deleted again.

and the second time I told somone on another desginer account what type of brand they are using my comment got deleted and I got a BLOCK ;P like for real???? why?? how is that wrong to tell what types of yarn ar eyou using? its not like somone gonna finish the brand and you can never purches it.
Like why its a thing to not tell and refuse to let someone to tell what type of brand they are using, honestly its feel like they get insulted if u do ask and answer.

please tell me your opinion on this matter cause I never know an explantion for this strange behavior, they answer for everything except the materials and sizes.

Im not sure about that, but like I got deleted comments and a block just for answering the brand type of a yarn they used? how would that affect their work when the brands sells it for everyone.

for the design matter I would say they have the fully rights to avoid letting others stealing it, but if its a simple project that can work without a pattern it would be hard to call it a steal.

Ive seen a designer who called others thieves but got a backlash because her projects are pretty simple that you can find tutorials on youtube for it, almost every crochet beginner makes those projects.

I by myself wanted to buy a cardigan from a designer but she kept refusing to tell me the sizes, I insisted on knowing how wide the sleeves are and Im almost over weight it would be risky to buy something when they refuse to give me the full sizes.

I used to think the same way, Then I found out the reason behind not telling anyone the brand.
It turns out they dont want the buyers to know the real prices of yarns so they dont question the prices, especially if they are not using a very expensive yarn.

I have found that as well. I am pretty sure its because possibly the same question is asked by so many they just are tired of replying. So why not add a FAQs area if they have a website. Etsy designers seem to be getting this way too. Ive asked several certain particulars about something theyre selling and get no reply. Often times they dont offer the brand theyre using because they cannot offer a suggestion of what to substitute what they used for something else. Since what they used may not be available in your country. But that is no reason for not replying to the question.

If they want to sell their designs answering questions on sizing if its not included in their listing is something they absolutely should do. Someone I know asks this question all the time. She is very petite and often the average pattern is much to big for her. But still they dont answer.

I do follow a designer who sell a cardigan between 650-700$, reading the comment before you explains why she never answer even tho I checked all of her posts, about 3-7 people only asked about the brand.

the rest asked for pattern and she happily replied that she dont sell pattern, searching by myself to see which yarn she use, turns out she use alize maxi lana, and alize is known not to be expensive, putting the hand work with the price of the yarn... 650-700$ is honestly a lot.

especially the cardigan they make is just using the knit stitch and one color, maybe thats one of the reason they dont respond and even block me when I told other what brand they are using XD

The block is very suspicious. But there might be a simple answer to the lack of replies other than what the people before me cited: the language barrier. Some designers (especially Russians) sell their works on Etsy, and they use English as the listings and the patterns language. But in reality, they use Google Translate or a translating service because they do not speak a word of English. In this case, some of them, especially the bigger designers, just plain ignore the questions in languages they do not speak since they dont lose too much with losing one potential buyer (they have enough fans to buy their works and they already have a good reputation).

Heres a trick when they refuse to answer your questions before buying something from them (especially through PayPal). Screenshot the question, with a visible timestamp. wait a day or so. Buy the item/pattern, immediately make a screenshot of the finished order and the message window of your question and the lack of answer with timestamps visible, and check if what you bought is good or not. If its not good and itd be obvious if the designer answered you, you can open a case with PayPal, and theyll give your money back, usually without questions. In case they need some proof, youll have the screenshots. After you get your money back, write a really bad review about the product. Sometimes writing a bad review alone will make the designer suddenly eager to help, but thats not a foolproof way.
