Hello everyone. Im from Spain and I love making felt toys. Im new to this forum and I love what you do.
I would like to ask you if you use cutting dies for making your felt toys and which ones do you recommend. I use circle dies to have perfect felt circles but I would lik some more ideas to buy new dies.
Thanks in advance and happy holidays!

Hi cicada82
I have a Big Shot machine, unfortunatly i dont use it for kite a few years since i moved to another country.
Like you the cutting plaques that i used the most was the circles and mabe some flowers, and belive me i have so many diferent ones.
For scrapbooking i used them more. My favourite was the bird cage and the christmas flowers.
Actualy i miss my big shot machine :(

Yup, I use a Big Shot too for cutting felt; especially the Big Diez that are quite pricey but are doing the job.
Did you know that through AliExpress and such, you can order your own Big Diez die? If you have a standard toy or shape this could be an anwer.

Die cutting machines can cut through felt if the die itself is deep enough to cut through the thickness of your felt. If not, try to go back and forth and use scissors to do some final snips here & there.

Did you know that a die cutting machine is a bit stronger on the left and right, but the weakest in the middle of the cutting section? But be sure to use your machine evenly if youre repeatedly cutting out bookmarks (for example): use left and right and middle regularly.

Did you know that you can sharpen your dull cutting dies a bit?
It pays off to buy a small sharpening stone for sharpening knifes (not such plastic sharpening tools from dollar stores but a real stone) and metal instruments. It needs to have a fine grid, like for kitchen knifes and hunting knifes etc. Smoothly polish as much cutting sides of your die as you can with the stone. It really helps.
The more expensive dies (e.g. from Sizzix) last longer and can be sharpened.

If I want to cut felt with a non-Big Diez die I lay a few layers of aluminium/aluminum foil under the felt first: plates/aluminium/felt/cutting die/topplate. That sometimes helps + does some sharpening at the same time too because of the aluminium.
Like cutting through a few layers of aluminium with your scissors helps them sharpen a bit.

:D Good topic! Have fun yall!

Well, the dies from Sizzix and the other well known companies like Spellbinders are very good quality. They last longer.

So maybe buy your need-to-have dies there? The price is a bit higher ofcourse.
Then all other nice-to-have dies can be bought from whatever brand you like for the lowest price you can find.
