Depending on the side- mostly in the middle to make sure the pattern edges are equidistant
from edge of fabric. When I have really large ones I start at the top left edge.

Depends on the pattern.  If the pattern is a solid background....fully stitched I start in the top left hand corner.  If the pattern is not "full coverage"  I start in the middle.

It depends on the design as to where I begin.  On larger designs, I start in the corner but on small designs such as ornaments I start in the middle.

I always start in the middle.  Im too paranoid that if I start at the top, I wont have enough fabric.

That does make a lot of sense! I tend to find the middle, then count up to the upper left hand corner - I usually stitch without a hoop so I will have to try your method. Thanks!

It depends for me, on what im stitching. I tend to go for the largest count of colour first (like if red has the most stitches - ill do that) and work out from there. It tends to make me less likely to have mistakes.
