Tips on How to Prevent Fabric from Fraying

I zigzag the edges with a sewing machine. I find it a horrible job to stretch one which has had masking tape on it - it is sticky and difficult to handle well :(

On smaller pieces I use tape - on bigger I hem it all the way round to start with.  I quite enjoy hemming. :)

I use a product called Fraycheck and it works quite well for me.  Its just a clear liquid that dries quickly but isnt very sticky like the tape residue. Hope that helps.

I hate (really hate:@) hand overlocking so I tried several methods:
1. In my early days as a cross-stitcher, I used sticky tape: its fast but well, its sticky and the tape tend to get rigid and crack so I abandoned that method quite rapidly
2. I then tried (machine) sewing a ribbon around. It takes a bit longer but looks so much nicer and you can also use a ribbon of a colour matching the design for a more "finished product" looking effect. I use this method mainly when I dont intend to frame the finished project
3. if I plan to frame my finished project, I (machine) sew around it with the zig-zag stitch (I use a quite wide setting in this case)
4. but if Im planning to have a "fryied hedge", I just live the tissue lives its own life ;P

my mum used to use bias binding, but i found that too bulky and difficult to put on and remove, I use my overlocker to stop the edges from fraying but I might look into the fraystop as that sounds even better, thank you.
