Most patterns are submitted in a pdf format and your PC should automatically open that using adobe.
You can check what format are these downloads in with their extension.

larger files like whole books usually come in .zip or .rar format. if its more than one part, you need to purchase all of them. for those files you need winrar, its a free software. select the file (if its more than one part, select all of them), right click it and select extract here.

Sometimes after purchase it helps to refresh the page.   Then click the download link again or  on the top where it says iBooks you will see a list of ones you have bought.
