Andrea Mowry Yarn recommendations are so expensive! How and why would someone spend $200+ on a scarf or over $500 a month. Its crazy!

No hate but I think the recommended yarns are so pricey! I love the patterns but I think she should consider majority of the crowd too.

If you look at her website, she is just selling her patterns only, not even kits with yarns.  I was quite suprised that she had yarn substitutions in the information for each pattern.  Not many designers do that.  One thing that you can do for any pattern on Rav, is look look at the Yarn Ideas tab for the pattern that you are looking at.  If its really popular you will find oodles of yarn that various people have used to knit up the pattern.  This would help if you need a substitution for any pattern.  I have known some friends to spend $$$$ on yarn if the pattern/yarn/time warrant the item.  Its a personal choice.  The high prices most often come with custom yarn custom dyed, which means a lot of effort went into creating it.  And yes like any craft you can find really expensive tools or really cheap tools.  Ive learned to look for substitues, and shop around when looking for any craft item I need/want.

It wasnt meant to be a hate post, I find her super creative, Im just newly getting into knitting and it was surprising to find that yarns are so expensive. :)

She uses those yarns because she gets them for free for promotion. And it seems to be working pretty well for her bussiness model and for the yarn companies, so whatever. You can find similar yarns for very cheap or for very expensive. I like the site yarnsub.com to find matching yarns.
I see nothing wrong, to each their own! ;P
