Im bored of crochet and learning how to knit

I dont have the money to start knitting yet, so Im watching every YouTube video possible to obtain the maximum of the knowledge I can until I have the resources to start my craft.

Hi, another crocheter turned knitter here. I recommend using bamboo or some other kind of wood for your first pair of knitting needles. I personally hated plastic knitting needles and acrylic yarn together on plastic needles will squeak in the most terrible way!

The size doesnt matter, so you can ignore all the advice to start with large needles and bulky yarn. Each yarn label will have a recommended needle size on it, so you can use that to find the correct yarn weight to go with the knitting needles you have on hand.

Since you have crocheted before, you should already know how to handle yarn. Thats good! Itll be easier for you to start. I recommend looking up how to knit "continental style", where the yarn is held similar to when you crochet. It will be easier for you to tension the yarn.

Good luck! I personally still find crochet to be easier than knitting, but the fabric produced at the end of knitting is lighter weight than crochet and much more comfortable to wear. I hope you enjoy learning!

When you do get your knitting needles, I like aluminum/metal needles more because my tensions tight so it helps that theyre slippery and I like the noise they make but wooden ones have more of a grip if you notice youre knitting too loosely, I recommend going for an easy task. What I did was that I got a single ball of yarn from a friend and cast on a substantial number then began knitting until I finished the ball. The yarn was quite thin because for some reason I thought that was smart :/ but either way, as I progressed it was obvious I got better because I stopped getting holes in the rectangle and when I finished the ball I had the option of frogging it or closing the sides and making a small pillow. Some people try to start with scarves but I think thats a bit of a commitment when youre just starting off and its very easy to quit so a smaller rectangle is faster, easier, and it gives you the satisfaction of having finished something in a shorter amount of time.

I literally just started knitting as a new year resolution.. bought some needles in a charity shop and just tried it out. Actually found some super reasonably priced double ended needles on Amazon which cover most needs. Good luck.

Anybody have advice for learning? I got the knit stitch down but really struggle with the purl. No idea why! Its so tight I cant use it usually.

Oh how could you ever be bored of Crochet?? I love it so much and have done it for over 40 years! I know how to knit a little bit but its too slow for me.

Its been years since Ive tried, so I may just need to do just that haha. I think Ive gotten much better at watching tension since Ive been crocheting. I also saw somebody on Reddit mention that purl stitches can be too tight if you wrap the yarn the wrong direction, which I may we have been doing. :shutup:
