If you are just starting out, I recommend a basic potholder or "mug rug" Just dont make a potholder out of acrylic, because it will melt at high temperatures and you will get hurt!

A scarf is a terrible first project. It is a huge endurance test and most people burn out before finishing. Stick to something smaller as you get the hang of it. The first things you make might not be so great so just remember to keep trying! You can do it!

As someone mentioned above, start with small projects and build up your personal "stitch library".
Also, using a cotton mix yarn, such as Alize Hobby might be easier on your hands when you are first starting out.
