start with a small project, j
just knit and purl, a simple scarf, no complicated patterns,
so that you can soon see the success of your work,
there are many videos on you tube with help
good luck

Thanks. I’ve made a few dolls clothes already. Not perfect but helping to understand the stitches.  Details Reply Post time 2024-1-19 03:38

If your stitches are too tight use aluminum needles but if your stitches are too loose use wooden/bamboo needles. It really helps when youre starting out and youre still getting used to holding the needles which means your tension could be all over the place. Also dont buy fancy supplies unless you want them and think youll continue knitting. thrift stores sometimes have knitting needles and yarn and if not then the big chains usually have standard needles and chunky yarn if the thin yarn seems intimidating. Along with stitch markers, a piece of yarn that you tie at the bottom to make a loop works just as well and is a good way to use scrap yarn. Last tip is that if you want interchangeable needles because everyone talks about them dont buy a cheap set and instead get a few cheaper circular needles if you need them for a project then save up for a much nicer interchangeable set that youll love. Those are the things off the top of my head, good luck and I hope you enjoy knitting!

Dont be afraid. You dont have to start with the most basic thing. There are a lot of videos online that can help. If you can knit and purl, almost every basic sweater is a good project. 90% of the project will be stuff you know and the rest is stuff you can learn. Good luck!

My Best tip: when anything in a pattern or the knitting process is making you nervous, go look up a Youtube video on the subject! There are many, many people who have come across the same problems as you and have made videos to help others. The other day I was dreading picking up stitches for a neckline, since it had been so long since I last did it and I had forgotten. All I had to do was watch a few videos and it all became clear and I was no longer worried about continuing on my project. Any time you feel yourself falling out of love with a project because you have to seam something before its done, etc etc, watch a Youtube video and feel those hindrances melt away!
