My yarn under single crochet look odd: any advice?

Hi... I make single crochet using the yarn under method (both times), I mean: I insert my hook, yarn under, pull up a look, yarn under and close the stitch. In spite of this, my stitches have a mixed look between V- and X-shaped and I dont understand why. Im quite comfortable with the tension, there are no holes to be seen and I would say the effort I have to make to insert the hook is reasonable (if not a bit over the average). I have tried sizing down the hook or putting more tension on the stitches thinking it could be due to a lack of tension, but none of this seems to work. What do you think could be a reason for this?

Hello, sorry to hear something its not working for you. First thing Id suggest is to be sure you are doing the stitches correctly all along your work and sometimes, even if the stitches are done well, the little X made with the yarn under methos can look closer to a V.
Id reccomend this video Best Single Crochet for Amigurumi, by olliehollycrochet (www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-WZmEp0UbM), which shows how to do the stitch and the best way to achieve your preferred look.
Best luck!

Thank you for your answer.

Update: Ive tried sizing up my hook to 4 mm and it doesnt seem to make a difference, so I dont think its a matter of tightness or tension in the stitches.

Well... Ive had a look at the video and it seems Im making things alright. My stitches look like a V leaned to the left, which I suppose is what you call an X. They actually look quite like the stitches from the woman in the video, so maybe theres nothing wrong with my technique!?

This "paranoia" is all because I saw a tutorial yesterday. It was about another topic, but the speaker made X-stitches which were nearly perfect box-shaped, what made me think there was something I wasnt doing well.
