Boxy and swingy, Buttonside uses German short rows to shape the shoulders below the textured saddles, the curved hems, and the sleeve caps. The textured garter stripe edging that borders the sides and hem is worked along with the body until the hem shaping, then applied seamlessly using additional short rows to curve smoothly around the corners. Construction: The textured shoulder saddles are cast on and worked first, then stitches are picked up for the back, shoulders shaped with a few short rows, and worked to the underarm level where stitches are cast on for the body and the worked-in side button bands. The hem is shaped with short rows while the band stitches are put on hold, then the bottom edging is applied seamlessly as a continuation of the buttonbands. The front is worked similarly to the back, with the addition of neck shaping. Sleeve stitches are picked up around the modified dropped armhole, and the sleeve cap is shaped with short rows for a comfortable fit, then worked in stockinette to the narrow garter cuffs. The matching garter neckline is picked up and worked in the round. Finished Size: About 32 (36, 40, 44, 48)” bust circumference. Sweater shown measures 36”.
