I am thinking about teaching some of my granchildren how to cross stitch, they've shown an interest, where my children never did lol  Anyone else do this, what tips or tricks do you suggest?

I have started to teach my granddaughter 4 years old, how to do embroidery for a start.
Big needle, Aida with big holes and some cotton yarn.  I draw a heart and a cross and started it for her.
She used running stiches

I hadn't thought about embroidery; I think that would be neat to teach them too.  Hope your lessons go well!

Hello, as the child that once tried to copy her grandma embroidery: I definetely watched her a lot, I tried to learn the movements she was doing first, then she would fetch my own piece of muslin to try with a bigger thread and embroidery needle. The same went for knitting, I'm still learning but I did know the basics thanks to watching my mum. I'd recommend to start a small project for them, something they'll be interested in, as a small embroidered keychain, or sewing together the part of a plushie or embroider flowers on a doll's dress...
I hope they'll like it, I have fond memories of my family teaching me :)

I loved cross-stitching as a child! I also did hearts and letters

Cross-stitching is definitely easier to start with (compared to embroidery that has many different stitches an techniques).
Start small, with few colours, maybe you can add some blackwork afterwards.
