Calypso is my latest knitting design, it’s published on Ravelry, for free.
Calypso is a fair isle yoke with Hellenistic inspiration. It tells the story of Ulysses’ journey during his Odyssey.
During the 10 years of his wandering through the Mediterranean see, Ulysses spent 7 years with the nymph Calypso.
This myth echoes with the confinement, we were confined to us, while on the contrary, Ulysses was deprived of returning to Ithaca…
Calypso’s motifs also tell a story.
The Odyssey pattern consists of a chessboard. If this one illustrates the game between the angry Gods and Ulysses, the spiral motif is Ulysses who wandered without finding his way to his homeland.
The Daedalus motifs transform the main color into secondary color, and vice versa in the jacquard in a wink to the disorientation of Ulysses as well as to the Greek myth of the Minotaur.
Why don’t you come knit this model? Cordelia
