Punch needle wool embroidery

Hello!
I was wondering if any of our lovely users have experience with punch needle embroidery using wool?
I would like to try and use it to embellish a garment, but it seems very insecure on the loop side. Is it possible to use another thread to secure the loop or would that defeat the purpose of the technique?This is a new technique for me
