Definitely cotton yarn. I hate the acrylic as it squeaks when I crochet and doesn't feel nice on my fingers. Plushy/chunky is too big, and fine/thread makes such tiny things!!
For me, it's sheep's or angora's fine wool. The results are just so soft, warm and durable. :) and with a fine yarn, you can make tiny cute patterns! It ends up looking very polished in my opinion.
Cotton is my favorite: fingering, sport or DK.
I've recently discover bamboo, and I think it's gorgeous.
But I need to buy wood needles for it, because it's tricky to handle with other kind of needles (steel ones).
