ModNote: Includes step by step instructions with many images and exact cutting guidelines. No pattern printables.

The Raspberry Rucksack is fully lined in the main compartment and in the front popup pocket. The wide opening of the main compartment offers great functionality and easy packing and access to items in the bottom of the bag. It comes in two sizes, Little Raspberry and Big Raspberry. The Little Raspberry is a perfect mini size for day trips or for an everyday bag. The Big Raspberry is a great size for a school book bag, gym bag, or work bag.
There’s nothing like sporting a rucksack you made all by yourself! Each step of the process is broken down into bite sized actions. The pattern instructions include detailed illustrations to help you easily navigate through each step.
Finished dimensions: The finished dimensions of the Raspberry Rucksack are (height x width x depth):
Little Raspberry:
9 ¼” x 7 ¼” x 4 ¾”
23.5 x 18.4 x 12.1 cm
Big Raspberry:
13 ¼” x 10 ¼” x 5 ¼”
33.7 x 26 x 13.3 cm
Materials needed:
Little Raspberry:
½ yard (0.5 m) - outer layer
½ yard (0.5 m) - lining
1 yard (1 m) - interfacing
3 ½ yards (3.2 m) cotton webbing 1” (2.5 cm) wide
2 rectangle D rings for 1” (2.5 cm) webbing
2 slide adjusters (non-adjustable) for 1” (2.5 cm) webbing
7” (18 cm) single pull zipper
22” (56 cm) double pull bag zipper
  40” (1 m) double fold bias tape 1/2” (12.7mm)
Big Raspberry:
  • ¾ yard (0.75 m) - outer layer
  • ¾ yard (0.75 m) - lining
  • 1 ½ yard (1.5 m) -interfacing
  • 3 ½ yards (3.2 m) cotton webbing 1” (2.5 cm) wide
  • 2 rectangle D rings for 1” (2.5 cm) webbing
  • 2 slide adjusters (non-adjustable) for 1” (2.5 cm) webbing
  • 9” (23 cm) single pull zipper
  • 32” (81 cm) double pull bag zipper
  • 1 ½ yards (1.4 m) double fold bias tape 1/2” (12.7mm)
Supply notes: Fabric for the Big Raspberry must be at least 50” wide. If using a cut-to-length zipper, the actual length of the teeth should be 22” (Little) and 32” (Big) for the double pull bag zipper. Leave an additional 1/2” on each end for extra breathing room.
Fabric notes: Works well with heavyweight cotton canvas or waxed canvas for the outer layer and quilting cotton for the lining. Medium to thick interfacing — fusible or nonfusible.
Sewing level: Advanced Beginner / Intermediate
